Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for Your Teleporte Account

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) adds an extra layer of security to your Teleporte account. This guide will walk you through the steps to configure MFA, ensuring your account remains secure.

When Will You Be Prompted to Set Up MFA?

You might be prompted to configure MFA during your first access after an admin has activated MFA for your account. This can occur during:

  • Account Activation: When you first set up your Teleporte account.
  • Regular Login: Anytime you log in after MFA has been enabled for your account.

Steps to Set Up MFA

  1. Download an Authenticator App

    • You will need a third-party authenticator app to generate MFA codes. Some recommended options are:
      • Microsoft Authenticator
      • Google Authenticator
      • Bitwarden
  2. Initiate MFA Setup

    • When prompted during login or account activation, you will see a screen with a QR code.
  3. Register Your Teleporte Account in the Authenticator App

    • Scan the QR Code: Open your authenticator app and select the option to add a new account. Use the app to scan the QR code displayed on the Teleporte setup screen.
    • Manual Entry: Alternatively, you can manually enter the code presented below the QR code into your authenticator app.
  4. Enter the Code from the Authenticator App

    • The app will generate a 6-digit code. Enter this code into the required field in Teleporte.
  5. Verify the Code

    • If the code is valid, your MFA will be successfully configured. You will see a confirmation message.
    • These codes can be used if you are unable to access the authenticator app at the time of login.
    • It is extremely important that you store these codes in a safe place, but somewhere you can access them. Each code can only be used once.
  6. Future Logins

    • For all future logins, you will need to open your authenticator app and provide the current code. Remember, this code changes every few seconds, so ensure you have access to your authenticator app when logging in.

Important Notes

  • Ensure you always have access to your authenticator app.
  • If you lose access to your authenticator app or device, contact your administrator for assistance.

Troubleshooting

"Verification code is invalid. Please try again." Error

This issue may occur if the device running the authenticator app has a clock that is not properly synchronized. To resolve this:

  • Ensure Automatic Time Settings:
On the device where the authenticator is installed, make sure the date and time are set to update automatically based on your time zone.
  • Verify the Access Device Settings:
Also, confirm that the computer or device you are using to access Teleporte has the same automatic time setting enabled.

Important: Even a few seconds of time difference can result in authentication errors.
